An electric oven typically draws about 2,500 watts while the bake element is on (roughly 2,000-3,500 W, with broil at the high end). It runs on 240 V and cycles on and off once it reaches temperature.

Watts by model and setting
Most electric oven models draw between 2,000 and 3,500 W while running; a typical one draws about 2,500 W. Assumes 45 minutes of baking a day with the element on about half the time after preheat: 2,500 W x 0.75 h x 0.5 = ~0.95 kWh. OPPD estimates about 20 kWh/month (~0.67 kWh/day) for a range/oven.
- Bake vs broil: a GE 30-inch range lists 2,585 W bake and 3,410 W broil
- Preheating runs the element continuously; holding temperature cycles it
- Convection fans and self-clean cycles add load (self-clean runs for hours at high heat)
- Door openings and oven size
Running an electric oven on backup power
This is a 240 V appliance. It needs a generator with a 240 V outlet or a transfer switch or interlock installed by a licensed electrician; most portable power stations only supply 120 V.
- Ovens need 240 V and a 30-50 A circuit; most portable power stations and small inverter generators cannot run them
- Only a large generator with a 240 V outlet connected through a transfer switch or interlock installed by an electrician can power an oven; never backfeed
- During outages use a microwave, air fryer or toaster oven on 120 V instead
- Run a gas generator outdoors only, at least 20 feet from doors, windows and vents; carbon monoxide from generators kills. Connect appliances with heavy-duty extension cords or a professionally installed transfer switch, never by backfeeding.

Questions people ask
Can a generator run an electric oven?
Yes, but only a larger 240 V generator (roughly 7,500 W or more for a full range) connected through a transfer switch. Portable power stations generally cannot.
How many amps does an electric oven use?
The bake element alone draws about 10-15 A at 240 V; a full range is typically on a 40-50 A circuit.
