How many watts does an air fryer use?

Most air fryers use about 1,500 watts (roughly 1,200-1,800 W): for example, Ninja's 4-quart model is 1,550 W and Instant's 6-quart Vortex Plus is 1,700 W. Smaller 2-quart models use less.

Watts by model and setting

Most air fryer models draw between 1,200 and 1,800 W while running; a typical one draws about 1,500 W. About 20 minutes a day; the heater runs full-on while preheating, then cycles: 1,500 W x 0.33 h x 0.7 = ~0.35 kWh.

  • Basket size: 2-3 quart models draw less than 6-quart and dual-basket units
  • Temperature setting and cook time; the element cycles once at temperature
  • Air fryer ovens with rotisserie or extra functions run near 1,700-1,800 W

Running an air fryer on a generator or power station

  • Generator: at least 1,500 running watts. A generator rated 2,000 W or more covers it with room to spare.
  • Power station: continuous output of at least 1,500 W. Pure sine wave output is the safe choice for motors and electronics.

2,000 Wh1.6 h
3,000 Wh2.4 h

Based on 1,050 W average draw (running watts × duty cycle) and 85% usable capacity.

  • No meaningful starting surge (the fan motor is small), but you need 1,500-1,800 W continuous
  • A popular outage cooking option because it uses less energy than a full oven
  • Check the wattage on the label against your power station's continuous rating before you cook
  • Run a gas generator outdoors only, at least 20 feet from doors, windows and vents; carbon monoxide from generators kills. Connect appliances with heavy-duty extension cords or a professionally installed transfer switch, never by backfeeding.

Questions people ask

Can a 1500 watt power station run an air fryer?

Many 1,200-1,500 W air fryers will run on it, but a 1,700 W model will trip it. Match the label wattage to the continuous rating.

Does an air fryer use less electricity than an oven?

Usually yes: about 1,500 W for a shorter time vs 2,500 W+ for a full oven that must heat a larger space.
